MORE THAN 6 MILLION AMERICANS LEAVE THEIR MOST FUEL EFFICIENT VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE

Atlanta, GA – More than six million motorcycle owners leave their most fuel efficient vehicle in the garage and take their cars, SUVs, mini-vans or trucks to work instead, wasting hundreds of millions of gallons of fuel each year.

In most countries around the world, motorcycles and scooters are the primary means of transportation for millions of people. Americans, however, view motorcycling as a recreational hobby that is reserved for the weekends.

The average worker commutes more than 30 miles per day, using anywhere from 1.4 – 1.7 gallons per day for their regular commute, depending on their fuel economy. Motorcycles would use just 0.6 gallons per day, and scooters get even better gas mileage. If every motorcycle rider used their bikes to commute to work just two days a week during the eight warm riding months of the year, it would save the U.S. more than 330 million gallons of gasoline - that's enough to fill the tanks of 16,500,000 cars. That means that each motorcyclist would save anywhere from $146 (vs. cars) to $214 (vs. SUVs) during the riding season, based on gas averaging $3/gallon. As gas prices increase, so do the savings.

While some riders claim that they don’t have the time to ride, motorcycles – like any motor vehicle – travel at the same speeds as cars so don’t require any extra time in transit. In fact, in many metropolitan areas motorcycles are approved to travel in the faster HOV lanes and could shorten the commute time for many.

Many are reluctant to ride to work since they don’t feel that the typical riding gear would fit with their work place image. “We hear this as a common reason for not riding to work. In fact, this is exactly why I started Classy Rider – to provide riders with mainstream-styled gear that provides protection for the ride,” said Kathy McCurry, president and founder of ClassyRider.com.

“We have customers ranging from lawyers to school teachers to corporate consultants who felt too conspicuous in the black leather biker jackets. We designed motorcycle apparel that allows them to ride to work and walk right into their office, school or medical facility and still be dressed in keeping with their workplace image,” McCurry said.

Over the past decade, motorcycle sales have grown and the riders represent a wide variety of occupations, from professionals and executives to government workers. According to McCurry, more people are expressing an interest in riding because of the gas savings – in addition to the recreational perspective. The motorcycles and scooters are as varied as their owners and new types of two-wheel vehicles are available that make it easier to ride. There are now automatic transmission motorcycles and scooters which alleviate the need to work the clutch in rush hour, stop and go traffic, and there are motor trikes that appeal to many who are concerned about holding up the weight of a typical motorcycle. Riding is also more affordable than most people perceive.

The cost for a slightly used motorcycle or new scooter can easily be found under $4,000 and insurance is often just a fraction of auto insurance. Of course, safe rider training is important and the Motorcycle Safety Foundation offers affordable beginner rider training courses.

“I thought it was important to design apparel that fits with the riders’ image, rather than the rider having to change their image to fit with the biker culture,” McCurry said. “I hope that this encourages more riders to take their bikes to work or even to run simple errands, and helps to reduce our dependence on expensive and volatile fuel markets. The motorcycle is very fuel efficient transportation and should come out of the garage on weekdays.”

About Classy Rider, Inc.:

Classy Rider was founded in 2002 by Kathy McCurry, a former advertising and marketing research executive. After taking up motorcycling, McCurry was frustrated by the lack of attractive motorcycle jacket options and researched current motorcycling trends. Initially hiring freelance designers who had worked for Liz Claiborne and Calvin Klein, the first line was launched in 2003. Since then, product improvements have been made and the current line offers the best styling and features to date to provide motorcyclists and scooter riders an alternative to black ‘biker’ leathers.

  • Scooter riders would enjoy greater fuel savings since scooters typically get 60-90/mpg but are not included in the overall calculations due to the unknown number in the scooter population.

Classy Rider ® Unveils New Lightweight Cruiser Jackets for 2008

All Textile: Now With Perforated Shells, CoolMesh™ Lining, New Colors!

Atlanta, GA – For 2008, Classy Rider ® has taken their traditional, classic lightweight cruiser jackets and added more features and colors for the warm weather riding season. Based on listening to rider needs, the new jackets use the latest textile technology and offer two colors in a perforated ultra-suede shell. When combined with the new CoolMesh™ lining, these new jackets offer cruiser riders more air-flow and comfort for the hot riding months.

“Customers were asking us to come out with even lighter weight jackets, so we searched until we found the right technology to produce them without giving up the quality and hand feel that we’re known for. The new perforated shells are exciting and the rider feedback so far has been great. We call this new jacket the ‘OMG Jacket™’ since that’s what people say when they try it on. This finally gives the cruiser rider a comfortable hot weather option that they didn’t have before,” said Kathy McCurry, President of Classy Rider, Inc. The new OMG Jacket™ debuts in two colors: Earth-Perf, and a light colored Tan-Airy which helps to reflect the sun’s heat while providing air flow through. The new jackets are available in both the men’s and women’s styles.

Riders were also asking for even more colors, and Classy Rider responded by introducing three new neutral tones as well as a sophisticated Royal Blue and Purple Haze. Altogether, the five new colors complement the individuality of the new custom bike colors, as well as the traditional metric colors.

For women riders, Classy Rider has also developed a unique black-on-black embossed ultra-suede shell that offers a feminine twist on the traditional black jacket. “One customer wrote to tell us that this jacket was ‘exquisite’ – which blew us away. I don’t think I’ve ever heard the words ‘exquisite’ and ‘motorcycle jacket’ used in the same sentence before “, said McCurry.

“While the jacket textiles, colors and lining are totally new for 2008, the features our customers look for are all still there, and some even better”, says McCurry. All of the jackets are very light-weight – still just about 2 lbs., so they are comfortable to wear, and have the protection without the bulk.

Classy Rider jackets have been referred to as ‘clever chameleons’ since the jackets conceal all of the protection and features that cruiser riders need inside the jackets:

  • 1000 denier DuPont Cordura ® along the inside of the sleeves’ skid zones and back piece
  • Removable, flexible EVA foam elbow and spine pads
  • The protective Cordura backpiece is also removable so the jacket can be converted into a casual street jacket or to make it easy to roll and stow in a saddle bag
  • Longer zippered side vents for increased air flow
  • 4 pockets inside and 2 outside to hold all of the essentials; Even the ladies jackets have all of the pockets
  • Gussetted, action-back shoulders for good upper body mobility
  • Trimmed-in through the rib cage to reduce wind billowing
  • Longer sleeves for the handlebar reach; Adjustable cuffs give the jacket a finished look
  • As always, Classy Rider jackets are all Machine Wash & Dry – and they won’t spot from the rain, making them easy to maintain.

Classy Rider will be showcasing the new 2008 jackets at the Dealer Expo, booth #4105.

Classy Rider ® jackets are available in six colors for men, and nine colors for women: Black (of course), Embossed Black (women only), Bronco Brown, Warm Brown (women only), Royal Blue, Purple Haze, Blue Ice (women’s). The New OMG Jacket™ with perforated shell and CoolMesh lining is available in Earth Perf and Tan-Airy. For women, Pink is a tenth color choice. For 2008, many of the jackets come with the CoolMesh™ lining to increase the comfort and breathability of the jacket. For cooler temps, a satiny lining is available on select jackets.

The jackets are competitively priced at MSRP $179.00 and are available at a growing number of dealers or on-line at: www.classyrider.com or by calling toll-free: 866-265-2403.

Classy Rider was founded in 2002, and has continuously improved the concept of motorcycle apparel that looks as good off the bike as it works on the bike. Our mission is to encourage the everyday cruiser rider to use his/her motorcycle for transportation by giving them apparel that matches their lifestyle and work image.
